Inching II

Eu aprendi uma expressão no Canadá que eu gostei muito: inching. Inch quer dizer polegada. Imagino que inching seja avançar lentamente, polegada por polegada... nada melhor para descrever o processo de escrita da tese. Eu tinha me programado para terminar a tese em dezembro. Hoje terminei de escrever a conclusão. Ainda tem um longo caminho desde ter o documento escrito até ter a tese acabada: revisar, formatar, corrigir erros, etc. Mas hoje cumpri uma etapa importante: botei o ponto final no texto. Até o orientador ler e solicitar alguma coisa. Espero que ele não peça muito... estou no fim do gás! Chegar nesse ponto é quase motivo para celebração. Sinal de que o doutorando desistiu de ter a tese perfeita em prol da tese possível. Avancei mais uma polegada...

I have learned an expression in Canada that I liked a lot: inching. I am not sure what it means, but as an inch is 2.54 cm, I supposed that inching means going forward an inch at a time... nothing better to describe the dissertation writing process. I wish I had finished it last December. Today I have written the conclusion. There is still a long way until I have the final document: revising, formatting, fixing, etc. But today I had an important step completed: the final period. Until my supervisor reads it and requires some changes. I hope he doesn't ask much... my batteries are low! Getting to this point is almost a reason for celebrating. It signals that the PhD candidate gave up of having the perfect dissertation and is willing to have the possible dissertation. I have moved forward one inch.
